 Star Trek — Episode #1: Captain Kirk

  • When the men look at the woman, she changes into what they want to see (they were seeing a different Nancy Crater)

  • Mrs. Crater can shapeshift into anyone 

  • Intensity of guns can be changed

  • Flip phones came from this series

  • Mr. Crater says Mrs. Crater is “the last of its kind”

  • Mrs. Crater is actually just the person’s identity the creature assumed to survive

    • The creature needs salt to live

    • The creature is killing Kirk’s crew

  • Leonard McCoy saved Captain Kirk and killed the creature


Star Trek — Episode #1: Captain Picard (300 years in the future)

  • He is not the captain anymore, living in France making wine

  • Spock is now an ultra A.I.

  • Food is 3D printed

  • Extreme high-tech 

  • Romulans and humans are friends now

  • The girl is connected to Captain Picard

    • She knows a lot about him and feels safe with him; may be Commander Data’s daughter

    • She has skills and talents and can see and feel things she didn’t know she could; she doesn’t know how she can do these things 

  • Dahj has memories implanted into her like replicants 

  • Dahj dies — she was synthetic and Romulans killed her 

  • Dahj has a twin that Picard now has to find


Star Trek — Discovery:

  • Differences in races in this version (equality)

  • Women in power roles

  • The two women create a well and creatures come out of it 

  • The thing in space trying to get the attention of the USS cannot be seen clearly; maybe it is hiding, but wants to safety be found

  • Number One encounters a Klingon when she lands on the foreign object the team found in space

  • Number One was trained to be Vulcan; she has Vulcan logic, but a human heart

  • The Klingons and Starfleet may fight; Michael and the Captain are at odds and Michael disobeys the Captain’s orders



Star Trek — Strange New Worlds:

  • 5 years earlier than the original Star Trek (2158)

  • Spock and Michael Burham are actually “siblings”

  • They use injections to sneak into a place by making themselves look like those people

  • They get caught and because they revealed themselves, alter the timeline

  • Captain Pike wants these people to join the Federation and they do

Love, Death, & Robots: Pop Squad

One of my favorite short films from the Love, Death, & Robots series is “Pop Squad”. “Pop Squad” is set in an ultra-futuristic world where people have the option to live forever through a treatment called “rejoo”. In order to get this treatment, the only condition is that you can not have children. Because so many people are choosing to never die, overpopulation has become a serious problem. The director of this episode is Jennifer Yuh Nelson. Nelson based this futuristic episode off Paolo Bacigalupi’s story where rules and regulations are enforced by the elite who see no need for “breeders” (parents) to birth “unregistered offspring” (children). The main character in this short, Officer Briggs, is tasked with finding hidden families and killing the children, who he refers to as “it” and “thing”. Metropolis

     Metropolis is a film that depicts the future of Germany throughout the clear division of social classes. As a psychology major, I watched this film with the mindset of attempting to analyze the character development between all of the main characters. For instance, Maria is the protagonist, Freder is the mediator, and, of course, Joh Fredersen is the antagonist who leads the upper class. Joh Fredersen, father of Freder, is a power hungry villain who views the working, lower class as expendable. He overworks these people and gives them numbers instead of names to symbolize their insignificance within society. For the majority of the movie, Fredersen does not care what happens to the lower class. However, toward the end of the movie, Fredersen's character develops. At 2:07:24, a scene with Joh Fredersen begins and he begs to know where his son is.
