Fashion Designer, Alexander McQueen

Image
Alexander McQueen is one of the most influential designers in the fashion industry. He endured a difficult childhood in a lower-class family in London. McQueen grew up openly gay, and later revealed that he was sexually abused by his brother-in-law when he was young.      McQueen is known for breaking the 'rules' of fashion, saying "You've got to know the rules to break them. That's what I am here for, to demolish the rules but to keep the tradition". Although he passed away in 2010, he has been very influential in the fashion industry. He has taught other designers to be daring and extend their boundaries --- that playing it safe in the industry will not get you anywhere. McQueen pushed these boundaries through bizarre, abstract fashion statements and wild, outlandish performances on the catwalk. He even designed a prosthetic wooden leg for one of his amputee models, as seen below. McQueen loved incorporating a variety of cultures into his designs as well

Interstellar

I loved Interstellar . I had never seen the movie before, but I thought the concepts behind this movie were amazing. Everything in the movie, from the cinematography to the acting was phenomenal. I love how real the scenes looked as well. Matthew McConaughey's acting, especially during the Black Hole Scene, was also well-done. He exhibited saw raw, realistic emotions while he cried for Murph to make him stay, as well as when he was watching his son, Tom, through decades of video messages.      Although the ending of the movie was not your typical happily-ever-after, I think if it was, it would have been an injustice to the overall film. This movie brings awareness to how humanity has destroyed planet Earth through overpopulation, climate change, global warming, and using too many of Earth's natural resources so quickly. It is inevitable that one day Earth will not be able to sustain life anymore, and Interstellar  making it so Earth does not survive makes the film much mor

Ready Player One and "Second Life"

Second Life       Ready Player One  is definitely one of my favorite movies so far. It was really cool to see, just like in our avatar research, how real people created avatars to represent who they wished they were. It was clear throughout the movie, especially with Arty, how she was much more confident and secure when playing in the OASIS game. Ready Player One  does a nice job in showing how consuming technology can be in everyday life. Although the OASIS was created to escape the struggles and dreariness of the real world, it became the only thing people did. In many scenes throughout the movie, the audience can see people fighting in the real-world because of the OASIS gaming platform, even actually hurting each other when the game became too real and the stakes got higher. Nolan Sorrento, the film's antagonist, even was willing to go as far as shooting Wade because of what Wade was doing in the game. I really like how, at the end of the movie, Wade, Arty, and the others deci

Ghost in the Shell

Ghost in the Shell  was a really difficult movie for me to grasp. I think because I haven't watched a lot of anime movies and the cinematography is not what I am used to, I was not really comprehending exactly what was going on. Doing the essay definitely helped me gain a lot of insight into the deeper meanings of the film.      I think it was really interesting to see how Major Motoko Kusanagi came to question her own creation because of the Puppet Master. There has long been an assumption that if a thing has a brain, it is human, or at least alive. Once Kusanagi realized that the Puppet Master had retrieved enough information to develop a brain-like system but still was not human, Kusanagi started to wonder if she was truly human, or maybe just another Section 6 creation.     My favorite quote from the movie was when Kusanagi said  "If man realizes technology is within reach, he achieves it, like it's damn-near instinctive." I really enjoyed this quote because
