Final Project

For our final project, we decided to watch the Sci-Fi movie, The Maze Runner , with the added benefit of Dylan O'Brien being in it. This movie is about a group of teenagers that are being on to see if they can withstand the trials of WICKED. WICKED is an organization that is attempting to create a stronger population of humans to save the world from "The Flare", but they are going about this in extremely unethical and dangerous ways. The Flare is an infectious disease that has wiped out Earth's population as a result of climate change and various other factors. Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) and the other teenagers put in the maze endure dangerous battles with Grievers and stings, while trying to find a way to escape the maze. To couple our film, we researched an article about climate change and its potentially detrimental effects on Earth and humanity if it is left unchecked. We thought this article as great for our project because The Maze Runner  is basically highl

Fashion Show

Image
The Fashion Show presentation was super interesting and a fun thing to be a part of! Honestly, I was pretty apprehensive about it because it is pretty out of my comfort zone, but everyone in class made it a fun show for us to put on. My group and I created looks inspired by the character, Ruby Rhod. His role was originally meant for Prince, so we attempted to incorporate looks from Ruby Rhod in the film and from one of Prince's staple costumes. Our theme was to create fashion looks that were gender fluid because of Ruby Rhod, but also because we believe gender fluid clothings will become a lot more normal and popular in the future. Today, I'll buy mens oversized clothing because I like how they look and how they feel, so I would not be surprised if men started wearing dresses or other normalized female clothing! Hannah and Jenna had looks inspired by Ruby Rhod's two main outfits in the film, the animal print one and the rose look. They used recycled materials from card

Ready Player One Assignment

The Ready Player One Assignment was one of my favorites. Growing up and especially now, I have never really played interactive video games. My group mate, Hannah, remembers growing up playing Movie Star Planet. So, we decided to use that game for our project. We generated a random avatar and moved throughout the different worlds until we came to a setting that we really enjoyed. We found one girl named Twinkle Toes who was dressed like cotton candy, a style that is definitely not too popular outside of avatars in video games.      We asked her a lot of questions about her style and about why she started playing online video games. She told us she dresses like this in the game because its how she wants to dress in the real world. But she told us she doesn't dress like this in real life for fear of being judged by her peers. I think a lot of people hide aspects of themselves from everyone else because they too are fearful of being judged or made fun of for being different and un

The Fifth Element

I thought The Fifth Element was a really great movie. In the beginning, I was really confused, but as I kept watching, I understood the meaning of the Fifth Element and how critical it is to the survival of humanity. The cinematography in this film is different some of my favorite that I've seen so far. The sets were extremely intricate and as a member of the audience, you can just tell how much thought and time were put into making this film something special. As a part of the cinematography, I ADORE the costumes in The Fifth Element.  I really love the inclusion of the character Ruby Rhod in the film. This role was originally created for Prince, but he could not participate because of problems with tour dates. Ruby Rhod is such an important character in the film because he represents a character that was highly underrepresented at the time. He represents the acceptance of gender fluidity as a person of color. His inclusion in the film brought a sense of power among minorities tha
