Interstellar

I loved Interstellar. I had never seen the movie before, but I thought the concepts behind this movie were amazing. Everything in the movie, from the cinematography to the acting was phenomenal. I love how real the scenes looked as well. Matthew McConaughey's acting, especially during the Black Hole Scene, was also well-done. He exhibited saw raw, realistic emotions while he cried for Murph to make him stay, as well as when he was watching his son, Tom, through decades of video messages.

Although the ending of the movie was not your typical happily-ever-after, I think if it was, it would have been an injustice to the overall film. This movie brings awareness to how humanity has destroyed planet Earth through overpopulation, climate change, global warming, and using too many of Earth's natural resources so quickly. It is inevitable that one day Earth will not be able to sustain life anymore, and Interstellar making it so Earth does not survive makes the film much more powerful.

I also really enjoyed the final scene between Murph and Cooper. Despite the scene being short and really bittersweet, it was nice to see how that father-daughter connection never went away. Even though Murph is depicted as decades older than her father, Cooper, there is still a very clear sense of Murph seeming like the daughter Cooper left behind in attempts to save the world. I think this film does a good job going through Cooper's emotional process of realizing that he needs to sacrifice the idea of seeing his children and family again for the greater good of saving humanity.
