The Fifth Element

I thought The Fifth Element was a really great movie. In the beginning, I was really confused, but as I kept watching, I understood the meaning of the Fifth Element and how critical it is to the survival of humanity. The cinematography in this film is different some of my favorite that I've seen so far. The sets were extremely intricate and as a member of the audience, you can just tell how much thought and time were put into making this film something special. As a part of the cinematography, I ADORE the costumes in The Fifth Element.

I really love the inclusion of the character Ruby Rhod in the film. This role was originally created for Prince, but he could not participate because of problems with tour dates. Ruby Rhod is such an important character in the film because he represents a character that was highly underrepresented at the time. He represents the acceptance of gender fluidity as a person of color. His inclusion in the film brought a sense of power among minorities that was not often seen during the 1900s.

I also really enjoyed Leloo's role in the film. She is the one person that can save humanity if she decides to fulfill her destiny, but she is also the one person that can let humanity fade away if she does nothing. Leloo comes to a cross roads throughout the film because she is tasked with saving the same people that flood the world with the evil that is destroying humanity. In the end, she decides to use the positive aspects of humanity such as care and love and what it means to be a good human, and with that, she fulfills her destiny.

This film made me look at life from a different perspective. It is so true that we as humans are destroying the good parts about our world. So many people only care about what is in their best interests. They only care about becoming powerful and being the best that they cannot see how these goals will eventually not be possible if we keep being reckless and careless about those who surround us. I think this film will make other audience members question as well what we should be doing to save our humanity.
